Note: Guidelines are solely dedicated to freshers preparing for IT software jobs
Being a fresher no one in the organization expects... which you are not suppose to know ;)
So forget everything and just follow the instructions below :P
- Practice aptitude, reasoning, puzzles etc as much as you can (40%)
- Computer fundamentals like operating system and database concepts (20%)
- SQL (Structured Query Language) here is link SQL from http://www.w3schools.com (10%)
- Don't mess up by learning too many languages rather than try to focus in only one language and be proficient in it. Here I am talking about Java but you can choose any programming language (30%)
- First off, start with OOPS (object-oriented programming) concepts here is a nice article OOPS from http://www.java.sun.com

- Setup the development environment for Java programming how? here is the link Install Java
- Follow this fantastic book "Head First Java by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates"
- Practice as much as you can by writing/running/debugging small programs
